Traditionally, cedar bark is valued for its many uses and strong durability. The Swinomish People and other Coast Salish tribes use this versatile bark for crafting tools, clothing and transportation vessels, like canoes.
Blackberries are plentiful, and fishing for sockeye salmon reaches its peak in July. While sockeye is a big catch this month, humpies — aka pink salmon — start their run this time of year and are caught using weirs and scoop nets.
Make sure to stop by 13moons and try these, and other, tasty dishes this summer!
