The Bite of Skagit has been held in Downtown Mount Vernon, Washington for the last 5 years. Unfortunately, due to construction, The City of Mount Vernon is not allowing the necessary street closures to hold the event in conjunction with the Downtown Sidewalk Sale this year. Other sites were suggested for the event including Cleveland Street and Edgewater Park; however neither of these sites meets the needs for this growing event.
Having been informed of the problem May 13, Bite organizers turned to their Monster Bite Sponsor, Swinomish Casino and Lodge for help. They immediately offered their Waterfront Park as an alternate venue. “Waterfront Park offers a much larger space to accommodate more food vendors, as well as plenty of parking and amenities,” said Terry Belcoe, President and CEO of North Coast Credit Union. “We are excited about this new venue and the opportunities it brings. Our mission is to raise as much money as possible for Community Actions Farm to Plate program. We believe with the support of our generous sponsors we will be able to accomplish our goals this year. We can’t thank the management at Swinomish Casino and Lodge enough for their quick offer of support.”
The Bite of Skagit is being held on Saturday, July 26th from noon to 4pm at Swinomish Casino & Lodge Waterfront Park. There will be plenty of food vendors. The Shadow Creek Project Band will be donating their time and talent offering classic rock and blue fusion music. This year’s Bite will have a festival like atmosphere suitable for the entire family.
Swinomish Casino & Lodge Waterfront Park is located just 10 miles from Mount Vernon at 12885 Casino Drive in Anacortes.
The Bite of Skagit was created through a partnership with North Coast Credit Union and Community Action of Skagit County for the benefit of the Skagit Food Distribution Center. Proceeds are used to purchase fresh produce from local Skagit County Farmers for Skagit County’s 14 food banks and 5 hot meal programs.
