Meet Emma Worgum, one of the Clubhouse Cashiers at Swinomish Golf Links! Next week, Emma will be competing in the Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego! She’ll be playing against other top golfers ages 15-18 from across the globe at Torrey Pines Golf Course, the site of the annual PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open and the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Open.
Qualifying for Junior World is the capstone of an incredible high school career for this golf powerhouse. A recent La Conner High School graduate, Emma secured the Class 2B/1B state title at the WIAA State Golf Championship in May, winning by 17 strokes. In June, she was named the Skagit Valley Herald Girls’ Golfer of the Year for the second time — she also received this title as a freshman in 2019!
While she hopes to place well at Junior World, Emma is focused more on enjoying this once-in-a-lifetime experience. She said she’s excited to meet players from all over the world and get to play on this renowned golf course.
Emma has been golfing for over 10 years. She loves the challenge of figuring out the best shots to take on the course and finds the game rewarding and relaxing. After playing in a Grass Roots Junior Golf tournament at Swinomish Golf Links, she began frequenting the course and joined us as a team member four years ago. As an employee, Emma loves the atmosphere and the team. As a golfer, she enjoys the freedom and options offered on our course, particularly at the driving range and putting green.
Emma is heading to Western Washington University this fall on a full athletic scholarship and will play on the women’s golf team. She said this is her biggest dream, and she is not taking any of it for granted. She wants to always try her best and continue growing as a player. Wherever life takes her from there, she’ll keep on swinging!
We are honored to have Emma on our team, and we’re so proud of everything she has accomplished. Good luck at Junior World, Emma — we’re all rooting for you!
